Frequently Asked Questions
How does psychotherapy work?
Therapy is more than just talking—it’s a space to get curious about what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll explore the experiences, relationships, and patterns that shape how you think, feel, and respond today.
Along the way, you’ll build self-awareness, reconnect with your strengths, and learn new ways to cope with stress, uncertainty, and old emotional wounds. As we make sense of your story, you’ll feel more grounded in your choices and more capable of creating the life you want.
Do you take insurance?
I’m an out-of-network provider, but many clients get reimbursed for a large portion of their fee. I’ll provide the paperwork and guidance to make it easier.
Read more about payment options on the Scheduling page.
How long are sessions—and how often do we meet?
Most sessions are 50–55 minutes. I also provide 2-3hr “Intensives” as needed. Most clients meet weekly, while others choose twice a week for more support, especially early on. We’ll work together to find the frequency that fits your goals, schedule, and budget.
What should I expect in my first session?
Our first session is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask some open-ended questions to understand what’s bringing you in, and you’ll have space to share what you’d like to work on. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out—just come as you are.
It’s also your chance to ask me questions and get a feel for how I work. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, seen, and supported.
How long will I be in therapy?
There’s no single answer. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue, while others stay longer to explore deeper patterns and ongoing growth.
Therapy tends to be most effective when you give it time. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the process continues to meet your needs and goals.
Will I need medication?
Not necessarily. Many people benefit from therapy alone. If at any point it seems like medication could be helpful, we’ll talk about it together. I can also connect you with trusted psychiatrists and prescribers I collaborate with. The choice is always yours.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes—confidentiality is at the heart of therapy. What you share in session stays private, with only a few legal exceptions (such as suspected child abuse/neglect, serious risk of harm, or a court order).
We’ll review these exceptions in your first session, and you’ll receive a written confidentiality agreement so you know exactly what to expect. Your trust and safety are very important to me.
Do you accept insurance directly?
I don’t accept insurance directly, but many clients use their out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. I’ll provide you with the paperwork and guidance you need to submit claims.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes! I provide secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy for clients in New York. Many people appreciate the flexibility of meeting from home or during a busy workday.
Who do you work with?
I primarily work with young adults (late teens through 30s) navigating transitions, relationships, and identity questions. I also work with adults of all ages on issues like anxiety, family dynamics, caregiving, and life changes. If you’re unsure if I’m the right fit, feel free to reach out—I’ll be honest, and I’m always happy to provide referrals if needed.
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
The best way to know is to try a conversation. I offer a free 15-minute phone call so you can share what you’re looking for, ask me questions, and get a sense of my style. If it feels like a good fit, we’ll take the next step together.
Still Have Questions?
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of “what ifs.” If you didn’t see your question here—or if you’d just like to talk things through—feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help you get the clarity you need.
